It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is, as soon as I feel a chill in the air, that’s all I need to justify treating myself to hot chocolate. Now THIS is not your regular everyday hot chocolate, it’s more like a well-travelled, flies business class has a fancy PhD type of hot chocolate. You get it – it’s special…
Winter drinks are all about comfort for me, its main intention being to warm you up from the inside out. This is the ultimate indulgent drink, it is rich, creamy and super chocolaty. It will feel like you’re getting a tiny snug little hug with every sip you take. The combination of spices lingers on your taste buds, leaving you craving more.
Apart from how delicious it tastes, ooooh the smell while making this is divine, makes me think of a chocolate Cinnabon – Yum!
You will need:
- Small saucepan
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Small ramekin
Yields: 2-3 Servings
Ingredients:
5 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
2Tbsp Sugar
4 blocks Lindt 70% Dark Chocolate
2 c Milk (substitute ½ c of milk for ½ of water for a less rich version)
½ c Cream
3 Tbsp Boiling Water
½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
¼ tsp Mixed Spice
1/8 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1/8 tspCayenne pepper
Method:
Start by chopping or breaking your chocolate into smaller chunks and set aside. In a small ramekin combine the cocoa power and the boiling water to form a paste.
In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cream and spices and allow to warm up over low heat. Once the milk mixture starts to simmer, add in the cocoa paste and stir until well mixed. When the mixture starts to boil, remove from the heat and add in the chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has fully melted into the hot cocoa.
Serve immediately and enjoy the indulgence.
